Java with Greenfoot Lesson 0: Install JDK and Greenfoot

Step 1: Install Java Development Kit(JDK):

Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp, and select the latest JDK. As of the writing of this article, the latest JDK version is JDK 6 Update 14.

Once the installation package is downloaded, double click to start the installation process. You can keep all the default settings such as default JDK installation path.  

Step 2: Install Greenfoot

Greenfoot is an interactive Java development environment great for teaching teens how to program. It’s designed to teach Object-Oriented Programming at high school and early university level.

Go to http://greenfoot.org and click DOWNLOAD from the menu bar.

Then select the installation package specific to your Operating System. Note that a proper JDK is required to run Greenfoot. If you have not installed JDK, go to

http://java.sun.com and download the JDK installation package.

On Windows system, double click greenfootsetup-151.exe to start the installation process. Keep all default settings to install. For extra help, click “install instructions”.
